Rajasthan Culture

Rajasthan CultureRajasthan culture opens up a whole new world of luxury, ancient traditions and rituals and numerous performing and visual art forms. The Rajput rulers were patrons of the arts and influence of the Mughals is also clearly visible.

The folk music and dances, though broadly the same, have minor variations in each erstwhile princely state. The impact of the brilliant hues of the land as well as its topographical and religious diversity is clearly visible in all aspects of culture of Rajasthan. Being a tourism oriented state, music and dance performances are organized daily at major hotels. Enjoy a traditional Rajasthani meal to the accompaniment of a performance.

The religious diversity of Rajasthan is reflected in the importance and beauty of the several places of worship of Hindu, Islam and Jain religions that are flourishing here. There are several major pilgrimage centers in Rajasthan of all religions; Ajmer, Pushkar, Dilwara Temples and Ranakpur Temples, four-faced image of Shiva carved from black marble at the Shiva temple of Eklingi near Udaipur, the minstrel Meera Bai, are all a testimony to Rajasthan’s cultural diversity.

Being a desert land, the life in Rajasthan revolves around Camels. As a result, Rajasthan has several fairs that revolve around camels and cattle. Events like camel races, best dressed camel and tug of war with elephants are common; so are other events like best moustache. Basically, fair time in Rajasthan is party time and visitors come from far and near for the experience.

Rajasthan also has several forms and schools of paintings. The miniature paintings depict the folklores of warrior Rajput heroes, romantic couples as well as devotional stories and mythology like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Fine brushstrokes and the use of vegetable and mineral based natural colors make these paintings a very popular art form with connoisseurs every where.

Rajasthan is a vibrant state and so is its culture. Experience it and enjoy it.
