Shilpgram

Shilpgram MusiciansShilpgram is an art and crafts centre done up in the style of a typical Rajasthan village. Situated just 3km out of Udaipur near Havala village, it is spread over seventy acres and is surrounded by the beautiful Aravali Mountains.

It is a Rural Arts and Crafts Complex that has been designed as a living ethnographic museum to depict the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of the West Zone of India. There are huts of the member states constructed with traditional architectural features of the geographical and ethnic groups. There are two Museums in the Shilpgram as well as a Crafts Bazaar designed like a traditional 'haat'. There is an open air Amphitheatre with a seating capacity of nearly 8000.

Traditional performing artists and craftsmen regularly exhibit their skill and demonstrate their crafts at Shilpgram. Terracotta, textile, wood and metal crafts, as well as decorative objects and implements both agricultural or craftsmen's tools, are on display here.

There are two Hut pavilions representing the weaver community from Marwar, the desert region of western Rajasthan. These structures are named after t he two sand-bound villages of Rama and Sam. They are built entirely from natural materials of the Thar, like stone, mud, wood or grass. These huts remain cool in summer and warm in winter.
